So this is the new skill tree well for monk anyways, as you can see they have divided up the skills into fields so rather then being able to take 6 of any actives your choices will be more limited, this is a good and a bad thing. Lets look at the Pros and Cons of each.
Pros
- Only certain spells can be fitted into certain sockets giving much more difficult choices when you have to decide between like doing lots of damage or having the utility of being able to teleport around.
- This makes it more user friendly since new players won't dump all their spells into spirit spenders only to realize they have no spirit generators.
- The runes are active at a much earlier level allowing for more early runestone customization adding to the fun factor.
- I believe this is the feel Blizzard was originally looking for where people will be forced to make tough choices as well as allowing characters to be adapted to certain playstyles without them becoming OP.
Cons
- While more user friendly this does remove a lot of customization options leaving you with a more linear path like what was in Diablo 2's skill trees in a certain sense where you need X to get Y.
- It may be quite a difficult change for some people who were used to the old skill setup and had their favorite builds laid out but now may not work as people will be forced to have certain spells.
- At the start some spells are obviously superior due to others being able to be socketed with runes while others not till later on.
However love it or hate it I believe it is something they intend to keep around maybe improve on it a bit, but I believe it will still be there in the end, so if you don't like this new system it may not be worth getting it. But to me as a Guild Wars PvP fan I really enjoyed the limited slots you could pick for skills creating all sorts of builds so I believe I will love this to.
