For those we don't know League of Legends(LoL) was released by Riot Games back in 2009. Since then they have improved gameplay and appearance of the game but while the quality of the champions and skins have improved unfortunately so has the prices.
Regularly costing 975 Riot Points(RP) for skins and champions; 975RP cost about roughly 8USD. This can get quite expensive to purchase things if you plan to buy them with real money. However you can buy them with Influence Points(IP) 6300 for one champion, IP can be acquired through playing the game though it takes about 50 games to get 6300 IP so if you plan to earn your champions you are going to have to play a loooot.
Compared to Dota 2 the matchmaking is far superior, out of playing 100+ games in Dota 2 I got maybe 1 or 2 completely balanced games that were challenging and fun. Most games in Dota 2 end up in one side being a stomping the other team. In LoL I have played about 1000+ games and while before the matchmaking was a bit spotty, lately they have really improved it, in most solo games I play the teams are very well matched and immensely fun.
Arranged teams are understandably a bit spotty since trying to match people with different skill levels in a group to other people can be quite difficult to accomplish.
Overall I believe the quality of LoL has really improved over the years if you haven't checked it out yet head over to leagueoflegends.com and try it out, it is Free to Play so there is nothing to lose and can provide months of entertainment easily. I personally have played over 900 hours about 37 days in time and I still am playing to this day.
