Guild Wars 2 - Preview

Guild Wars 2 is being created by ArenaNet and so far it is quite a interesting game. It is a fullfledged MMORPG, in Guild Wars 1 you were often instanced off from the rest of the world, While this was not a huge problem to me it felt more like a Multi-player game with a visual chat lobby then a MMO.

It is still currently in beta so there should still be chances to try and participate in the game's creation before it is actually launched. I personally have not made it into the beta so I won't have many pictures or videos to give you myself, however I have been following a few people creating Guild Wars 2 videos from the beta which I will link you to.

If I tried to cover everything in Guild Wars 2 we would be here for a few decades because there is just so many interesting things it brings to the table. So I will just give you a rundown of the very basics and then we can go from there.

The skills in Guild Wars 2 don't work based on your conventional system where you level up get predetermined skills, then you put them on your hotbar and try to best figure out the way to use them at what time.

Instead each weapon for each class has a different set of skills also depending on whether you equip it in your off-hand or main-hand it varies even more giving you a insane number of combinations already, not to mention most classes have the ability to carry another set of weapons that they can change to on the fly very quickly in combat.

However all this is just scratching the very surface to the amount of actual customization you can do with your skills. After you choose the weapons you like, you go to your next 5 slots where you use your skillpoints that you can attain through doing interesting challenges of sorts to purchase skills that you can swap out whenever you want into those 5 slots.

Also when you start a character you have the ability to send your character into the mist where you will get a level 80 version of your character with everything unlocked so you can really try out your character before you even start so you don't have to waste any time finding the right character for you.

I feel one very important thing I need to mention is there are no healers in Guild Wars 2, everyone has a ability to heal themselves, so rather than one player just playing a game of glorified whack a mole with life bars, people will really need to learn to heal themselves and actively dodge attacks making the game more based on the individuals skills then how good some person in your group does.

The last thing I'm going to add is that the way quest and events work in Guild Wars 2, aside from the main storyline is it's all done automatically, all you have to do is go near a NPC and a quest will pop up to kill things, solve riddles, etc you get the point. So it's a lot easier to pickup and play with friends don't have to make sure you both have the same quest and are on the same page.

Then as you complete these quest and events you gain karma which you can use to purchase rewards from the quest givers you've helped so rather then people fighting over trying to get 1st place to get better rewards everyone can buy their own rewards. So it encourages people to work together to overcome challenges, but since the quest scale to the number of players it's still possible to solo most of the content.

Thank you for taking a interest in Guild Wars 2 I personally am hoping to get into the beta still and am hoping to see you all there.
