The Matchmaking in DotA 2 is horrible I would not recommend this game to anyone who enjoys their happiness or their sanity, because you will be put up again and again and again against stomp teams, untill they fix this it really doesn't deserve a 8.5, more like a 5.5 if that. There's no fun to found in time after time being put up in games that are impossible to win.
Not only this but the community is a bunch of delusional pricks, reporting them doesn't do anything either you only have a limited amount and the second you report 1 20 more will pop up in their place.. People spend more time arguing who sucks more then playing the game. The only time you probably should play this is if you have a stomp team like all other valve's games..
For those who don't know DotA (Defense of the Ancients) is originally a custom scenario for the game Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, This was based on AoS (Aeon of Strife) from Starcraft, as such the style of this game is usually referred to a AoS. However sometimes they are also referred to as MOBAs (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena)
DotA 2 is played from a top down perspective like RTSs usually are, using the left mouse button to select and the right mouse button to move or attack, along with using Q,W,E,R to cast spells however all keys are rebindable so there is no need to worry if you do not like that setup.
The principle for this game is fairly simple, the objective is to destroy the enemy's Ancient but unfortunately it is guarded by waves of
Strength Heros are the bulky strong heros that can take a beating on the frontlines of combat protecting their team and dealing out damage. Agility Heros are usually more squishy heros favoring very high damage to crush their foes trading off health for a more sneaky approach to killing their enemy. Lastly Intelligence Heros the casters of the game, using high damage spells or supporting spells to help their team. However within every group there are mix ups Strength Heros who cast spells, Agility Heros who support, Intelligence heros that can take a beating and such.
After you select you hero you will need to buy items then choose a lane, Top (Being the top left of the map), Mid (Middle) (Of course being the middle of the map), or Bot (Bottom) (Being the Bottom right of the map.) There is usually 2 top, 1 mid, and 2 bot. Whichever lane you pick though your objective is to survive, protect your tower, and destroy their tower, as well as try to kill enemy heros.
Killing the enemy heros offers numerous benefits such as, XP (Experience), money, and well they are out of the play for a while so you have free reign on their tower. of course if you die they have the same advantages so it's better to prioritize surviving over killing the enemy.
As you level up you will need to spend your skill points to upgrade your characters skills or stats, along with buying items, these things are a huge part of the game and will define your character and what they can do. A lot of fun comes just from how much customization there really is in this game, you can buy from a selection of 100s of weapons, consumables, utilities, and armor.
Overall the gameplay for these types of game is very fun and can provides hours on hours of entertainment as long as there is enough things to pick from.
Anyways enough about on to the real game. DotA 2 is exactly the same as DotA from Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. It is basically a upgrade of platform, moving from DotA to DotA 2 they have added matchmaking, upgraded graphics, stats, and cheat prevention. This of course is a very good thing as going up against stomps was a usual fear of playing DotA on Warcraft.
However if you didn't like DotA before you probably won't like it now, as it is much the same only a few improvements have been made to make things easier on the player that really should of been in the regular one but weren't entirely possible with the engine provided.
Really there isn't much of a point to play DotA once DotA 2 comes out as it's just a upgrade and it makes things so much more fun, All the problems with the first one are pretty much gone, though the problems were mostly caused due to the limitations in the Warcraft 3 editor itself. So this really is a welcome thing.
However there still is some problems that will most likely be fixed by the end of beta. Like the camera is a bit hard to manuver at times, and some minor bugs that you can usually fix by reconnecting or dieing.
Story
NA - While there is a story and lore, this is not really much of a part of the game and just adds a bit of backstory to everything so you know somewhat why you are doing these things.
Gameplay
7.5 - Gameplay is a lot of fun, however being a multiplayer game there will be people who try to ruin your experience.
Graphics
9.0 - The graphics are really stunning, the spell effects look amazing, the characters are well designed, and there is tons of vibrant colors.
Audio
7.0 - Honestly the jokes are all puns on things and as you run around and they can get a bit annoying at time, I don't believe you can turn them off but that will be a option in the future. However the spell effects and other sounds are very well done.
Replayability
10.0 - The game was really based on replayability it's something no matter how many times you play over and over there still will be more to do and is always being updated, so there will be even more.
Overall - 5.5 (Horrible Matchmaking)
